How much does HVAC repair cost in the Bay Area?

The diagnostic fee is flat. Most common HVAC repairs (capacitor, contactor, igniter, thermostat) fall in the $200 to $700 range, including parts and labor. Larger jobs (compressor, heat exchanger, blower motor) get a written quote before any work starts. The price you see is the price you pay.

How fast can Onzone get a technician to my house?

Same-day for most calls during normal cooling and heating seasons. No-cool calls during heat events and no-heat calls during cold weather jump to the front of the queue. Maintenance plan customers get priority dispatch. Call (650) 698-7979 for a real ETA before you commit.

Do you charge a fee for a quote on a new HVAC installation?

No. Installation quotes for new systems are free. We do a load calculation, walk the house, look at the existing ductwork, and write a real estimate. You can compare it to other bids before deciding.

Should I repair or replace my AC or furnace?

Rule of thumb: if the unit is 12 to 15 years old and the repair quote exceeds half the cost of a new installation, replacement usually wins on efficiency and reliability. We will lay out both numbers honestly and you choose. We do not commission-sell replacements.

What HVAC brands do you service and install?

We service every major brand: Carrier, Lennox, Trane, Mitsubishi, Daikin, Goodman, Rheem, York, American Standard, plus mini-split brands and older systems most shops avoid. For new installs we work primarily with Carrier, Mitsubishi, and Daikin for residential and Carrier and Trane for commercial.

Are heat pumps a good fit for Bay Area homes?

Yes, especially in the Tri-Valley and the East Bay. Bay Area winters are mild enough that heat pump efficiency stays high all season, and a single system handles both heating and cooling. Pair with PG&E and BAAQMD rebates and most homeowners come out ahead within 5 to 8 years.

What HVAC rebates are available in the Bay Area?

BayREN, PG&E, and BAAQMD all run heat pump and electrification rebates that change every year. Rebates can stack into the thousands of dollars depending on equipment and household income. We help you identify what you qualify for during the install quote. Verify current amounts before committing.

Do you do annual HVAC maintenance plans?

Yes. Our plan covers two seasonal visits (spring AC, fall heating), priority dispatch on repair calls, and 15% off any repairs that come up during the year. Most homeowners save more on the repair discount alone than the plan costs.

How often should I have my HVAC system serviced?

Twice a year is the standard recommendation: once in spring before AC season, once in fall before heating season. One annual combined visit in the shoulder season is acceptable for most homes and meets manufacturer warranty terms.

How often should I change my HVAC filter?

Standard pleated filters: every 90 days, more often during wildfire smoke events or if you have pets. Higher-MERV filters: per manufacturer spec, usually every 60 days. If the filter looks visibly loaded with dust, change it now and check more often.

What size HVAC system does my house need?

It depends on square footage, insulation, window orientation, ceiling height, and ductwork. The right answer comes from a Manual J load calculation, not a rule of thumb. We do this for every install quote. Oversized systems short-cycle and underperform. Undersized systems run constantly.

Do you offer 24/7 emergency HVAC service?

Yes. A live person answers the line 24/7. We dispatch across the Bay Area for no-heat in winter, no-cool during heat events, gas smell, CO concerns, and down commercial refrigeration. Maintenance plan customers get a reduced after-hours rate.

My furnace smells like something is burning. Is that normal?

On the first ignition of the season, a brief burning-dust smell is normal as dust burns off the heat exchanger. If the smell continues past 15 to 20 minutes, smells like plastic or chemicals, or returns later in the season, shut down the system and call us. It can indicate a wiring or component issue.

What do I do if I smell gas?

Leave the building immediately. Do not turn lights or appliances on or off on the way out. From outside, call 911 first and PG&E gas leak line at 800-743-5000. Then call us at (650) 698-7979 so we can be ready to come in once PG&E clears the property.

Do you do duct cleaning and air quality work?

Yes. NADCA-protocol duct cleaning with HEPA-filtered negative-pressure equipment, optional EPA-registered antimicrobial sanitization, before-and-after photos, and a written completion report. Especially valuable after wildfires, remodels, or any major dust event.

Do you work on commercial refrigeration too?

Yes. Walk-in coolers and freezers, reach-ins, refrigeration line work, condenser racks, ice machines. 24/7 emergency dispatch for restaurants and grocery. EPA-certified refrigerant handling on every visit.

Are Onzone technicians licensed and insured?

Yes. Onzone Heating & Cooling Inc is a California licensed HVAC contractor (CSLB) and fully insured. Our techs are NATE-certified and EPA Section 608 certified for refrigerant handling. We can provide license, bond, and insurance documentation on request.
